Canadian Coup

There is, as I write this, an attempt to overthrow our Canadian government. The 3 parties that lost in our October 13 election, the Liberals, the NDP, and the Bloc Québécois, are attempting to join in a "coalition" to defeat the party that which currently holds power, the Conservatives. The way our electoral system works, the party with the most seats in parliament, holds power and declares who the Prime Minister will be. This is all well and good, unless the winning party does not make up more than half of those seats. If you have the most seats, but that number is fewer than half of the seats in parliament (which equals 308), then you comprise a minority government. If you have the most seats and have more than half of those seats, then you comprise a majority government.

Ontario Young Drivers

If you're getting your license any time soon, and live in the province of Ontario, you may want to watch the upcoming headlines closely. It seems Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty wants to step a little further into your life. There is legislation, being looked at right now, that will limit you extensively when it comes to getting about and living your life. That includes going to school, going to work, going to a movie, going to the mall, or going to a bar. If you were planning on helping out and being a designated driver for your friends, think again.

Political Leaning

I have made up a pretty neat little script that calculates your political leaning depending on your answers. Give it a try, you might surprise yourself, you might not. Feel free to leave your Personal and Economic score in the comments, this could be fun!

Political Parties

I have been doing a lot of reading lately on politics and I wanted to post my opinions on all 20 parties running in this upcoming Federal Election. I am going to post them in order of preference just because it's my opinion and that's what I feel like *grin*. I'll do my best to link sources and all, but some of this will be pure opinion. This list comes from Elections Canada Online. Anyway, here goes:

Candidacy

Sorry, I know I haven't been around here much in the past few weeks, but, hopefully, that will change in short order. During the time away, I've managed to search out and find a new place to live, transfer or cancel the bills and finally move all our stuff over to the new place. None of this was done on my own, of course. My fiance helped out a great deal in finding the place and helping clean the old place and my brother and parents helped with the moving of the stuff. My poor brother has had to help me lift my TV up and down stairs about 8 times now and everyone should feel for him. The help is greatly appreciated though.

On another note, I would like to let people know that I have volunteered to run as a candidate for the Libertarian Party of Canada for the Edmonton -- Millwoods -- Beaumont riding in the upcoming (Read: iminent) Federal election. I would love to hear from any and everyone regarding any concerns or questions they may have relevant to the LPC's policies or what it might be like in a Libertarian government. I have touched the issues in a couple articles, namely Libertarianism and Libertarianism Revisited. I really don't mind the questions, or debate, and would genuinely love to hear from you!
